Social soccer losing identity?

Sports Reporter

ONCE a competition for pot-bellied ageing men, some who could not last more than 20 minutes on the field of play, social soccer has been invaded by youthful and vibrant players, a development that has killed the “boozers’ spirit.”

Whereas social soccer was about networking through some little exercising, it has turned into a win-at-all-cost competition, where some professional players are hired for some specific games.

Some Premier Soccer League and Division One and Two players have sadly been injured in these social games, with their clubs forced to meet the medical expenses on the pretext that the injuries would have been incurred at training or during their respective league assignments.

However, there are some boozers’ leagues that have remained true to the name.

Some of the most popular teams in Harare are Dobenya, Eleven Madhara, which is made up of Ximex Mall dealers and Pan Jap, which comprises of some car dealers.

Former Premiership players have their team which is called Ambassadors. Retired stars like David Sengu, Stewart Murisa, Justice Majabvi, Kelvin Mushangazhike and Dickson Choto make up that team.

Below are some of the results of the social soccer games played yesterday.
