AS the social soccer frenzy rolls on across Manicaland, six clubs and their netball counterparts will converge at Dangamvura’s Rujeko Primary School grounds for a potentially exciting Easter Saturday round robin competition.
Matches start at 11am.
As patrons at different social hangouts in Mutare in particular and Manicaland at large continue sparring time for physical workouts through football and now netball, Rozvie Empire, Dhunza, All Stars, Chipolopolo, Cracking Fathers and Ghetto Stars – all Mutare-based teams – will cross swords of supremacy, while participants get an opportunity to burn a few calories.
Apart from the usual entertainment that creates a carnival atmosphere during and after social soccer events as well as the business side of it, hosts, Rozvi Empire proprietor, Edmore Gopo, said their main focus is also on physical wellbeing.
“Much as it is a fact that there is always a carnival atmosphere during and after social soccer events as well as there is also a business approach to such events, it is also a fact that one of the greatest benefits is physical wellbeing.
“We all know how busy our schedules are and that many of us hardly find time to have routine workouts. It is against this background that the physical wellbeing that comes with playing social soccer can never be underestimated,” said Gopo.
With football being the country’s best supported sport, social soccer matches have become an in thing, with different social settings, be it religious or any other social sphere finding value in the physical benefits of the sporting activity. Only recently, in the same sprawling hood of Dangamvura, a sunny Sunday afternoon provided a serene ambiance befitting for a social soccer fiesta that deservedly turned Dangamvura’s Beit Hall Ground into a carnival atmosphere.
People from different walk of life created an electric atmosphere that went down as a testimony of the increasing popularity of social football matches around the province of Manicaland and the country at large.
