COMMUNITIES should unite and come up with projects that empower children and effectively protect them from increasing social vice, Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cde Simbaneuta Mudarikwa has said.
Addressing delegates and students at the provincial Child Parliament held at Mutoko High School on Friday, Cde Mudarikwa said raising children in a righteous manner required a communal approach.
“There are many practices in our society which need our collective effort to deal with. These practices take both a social and cultural dimension.
“I call upon the leadership of the province at all different levels from the senior MPs, senior Government officials, religious leaders, traditional rulers, men and women, boys and girls to stand as a united force in combating harmful practices in our society”.
He said junior Parliament was playing a key role in developing children.
“The Junior Parliament is providing the platform for the children to discuss issues pertinent to them and to have their voices heard,” he said.
The celebrations were running under the theme, “Eliminating harmful social and cultural practices affecting children: Our collective responsibility”.
Speaking at the same event, Zimbabwe Youth Council chairman for Mashonaland East Mr Philip Sewera said the council would create a platform to help eliminate harmful practises on children.
