Sodomy earns inmates more jail time

George Maponga Masvingo Bureau
Two inmates at Mutimurefu Prison here had an additional six-year prison term added to the sentences they are serving after they were convicted of sodomy recently.

Tobias Tarusarira (21) and Zivanai Mandengu(20) are doing jail time at Mutimurefu Prison for unlawful entry and theft, and attempted rape, respectively.

Mandengu is serving a four-year jail sentence for attempted rape, while his accomplice — Tarusarira — was serving 12 months in jail for unlawful entry and theft.

They were convicted of sodomy by Masvingo regional magistrate, Mrs Dambudzo Malunga, last week on their own plea of guilty.

Agreed facts are that on September 24, last year, Mandengu and Tarusarira, who stayed in different prison cells hatched a plan to sodomise each other.

At around 1pm on the same day, Tarusarira sneaked from his prison cell and joined Mandengu.

The two proceeded to have consensual anal sex in Mandengu’s prison cell.

Luck ran out for them after Mandengu’s cell mate, Nabot Muzamani, caught them in the act.

Muzamani alerted prison officers who reported the matter to the police, leading to Tarusarira and Mandengu’s arrest.

A medical examination conducted at Masvingo Provincial Hospital confirmed the pair had sodomised each other.

Ms Mukai Mutumhe appeared for the State.
