A soldier recently lost his uniform, cash and a cellphone to two robbers who had given him a lift, police have confirmed.
Norman Taramba, who is based at Commando Barracks in Harare, was on his way to his station when he met his fate.Midlands province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred on Sunday at about 2pm along the Mvuma-Harare Highway.
He said Taramba was robbed just outside Mvuma town by two men who were driving in a Toyota Ipsum.
“The allegations are that on Sunday, Norman Taramba of Masvingo was on his way to Commando Barracks in a lift, an Ipsum vehicle which had picked up him in Masvingo. On the way, the driver of the Ipsum who had used the Masvingo-Mvuma Highway stopped along the way, about 2km outside Mvuma Town,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said an occupant who was at the back of the vehicle grabbed Taramba and produced a knife while demanding cash.
Insp Mahoko said the driver also produced a wheel spanner and struck Taramba on the stomach.
“The two suspects searched Taramba and took $206, a Nokia C3 cellphone and a bag which had a Zimbabwe National Army uniform together with Taramba’s identity card. The two suspects pushed Taramba out of the car before driving towards Gweru,” he said.
