Soldier in court for neglecting two children

Ashley Mujoma

A MEMBER of the Zimbabwe National Army was yesterday dragged to court for neglecting his two children.

Jeni Zekiya said it was high time Livestone Mudavanhu took full responsibility for his children.

She made the revelation at the Harare Civil Court, where she was claiming $80 000, in maintenance.

“I am applying for maintenance because the children cannot suffer because their parents are not in good books,” she said.

Zekiya claimed she was aware that Mudavanhu had another family, but that was not a justification for being irresponsible.

“He can’t say he doesn’t have enough money because he has another family.

“He should learn to strike a balance between both families,” she said.

In response, Mudavanhu argued that $80 000 was beyond his means.

“I can manage to pay $20 000 now,” he said.

Magistrate Judith Taruvinga, who presided over the matter, ordered Mudavanhu to claim $20 000 and US$20, effective July 31.
