A GWERU based soldier stunned a maintenance court when he said he can only afford to pay $50 per month for the upkeep of his three children aged 13, nine and six years.

Moses Moyo was dragged to the Maintenance Court by his ex-wife Tendai Shumba who was demanding $200 for the upkeep of the couple’s three children.

Moyo said he can only pay $50 as each month $100 was being deducted from his salary to settle a loan.

“She is demanding too much. l have a loan that I’m paying and as a teacher she must also contribute to the upkeep of the kids rather than spend money with boyfriends,” said Moyo.

Shumba told Magistrate Makora that Moyo was lying that he was repaying a loan.

She said their three children needed school fees, food and clothing.

Shumba said she was willing to contribute $100 every month for the upkeep of their children.

“Besides rentals I can contribute $100 for my kids,” said the mother of three.

The magistrate then ordered Moyo to pay $150 monthly for the upkeep of his three children with effect from August 31. — @patiemtsiwi
