Soldiers fight over kids’ love affair

TWO soldiers based at HQ One Brigade Barracks in Bulawayo are to be court marshalled after fighting over their children’s love affair.
Warrant Officer Lameck Mandaza, 53, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya last week on charges of assaulting his subordinate, Colour Sergeant Charles Mushayabvudzi, 46.

Mandaza told the court that as a result of the altercation they had been summoned by the commander of the barracks.

Prosecuting, Calington Dhliwayo said trouble started when Mandaza found out that Mushayabvudzi beat up his son for being in a relationship with his daughter.

“On May 7 Mandaza, accompanied by his wife Espina Mandaza, went to Mushayabvudzi’s house to question him over the issue.
Mushayabvudzi was in the company of his wife Christine and tempers flared after Christine told the Mandazas that their son was beaten up for proposing love to their daughter.

“Espina pounced on Christine and slapped her several times. Mushayabvudzi then got up to try and restrain the two and Mandaza joined in the tussle, grabbing Mushayabvudzi by the collar and tripping him,” he said.

The couples exchanged blows and in the process Mandaza allegedly bit off a chunk of Mushayabvudzi’s ear.

In retaliation Mushayabvudzi bit off Mandaza’s finger and grabbed his testicles in order to weaken him.

The wives, who were in a battle of their own, were attracted to their husbands’ fight as a result of Mandaza’s wailing.

Espina then pushed Mushayabvudzi, grabbed his  testicles and bit them.

In a bid to rescue her husband, Christine also sunk her teeth on Espina’s belly.

A crowd of neighbours intervened and restrained the couples and Mushayabvudzi went on to report the matter to Queenspark Police Station.

Mandaza also reported the matter to military police at the barracks.

Mandaza was remanded out of custody for a ruling on May 21.
