THE Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Director of Finance, Colonel Albert Malamo, has said soldiers should stick to their duties of maintaining peace in the country despite a lot of activity on the political front.
Col Malamo was speaking at the Ordinance and Transport training School graduation ceremony at Imbizo Barracks in Bulawayo yesterday.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank you for remaining resilient, loyal and resolute and for maintaining peace and stability in the country for the past 37 years. A lot of activities are happening on the political front and you have to remain focused on your tasks in order to carry out your duties professionally,” said Col Malamo.
He said the army is obligated to safeguard the gains of the liberation struggle and to protect the nation from enemies at all costs.
“My message to you is that you are soldiers first and foremost. I want you to remember that you are the proponents of peace and stability in the country. Peace must begin with you and it is your responsibility to ensure the rest follow your example. We have the constitution which you must defend as well as the land which you must jealously guard. Any deviation from this will cause our fallen Heroes and Heroines who died for our independence to turn in their graves,” Col Malamo said.
He said skills learnt from the courses would benefit soldiers even after they leave the ZNA.
“I would like to applaud the Commandant of the School for partnering with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education Science and Technology Development industrial training and Trade Testing Department in testing these men and women to become skilled workers. This will not assist the organisation only, but it will also benefit them after service,” said Col Malamo. He urged soldiers to further their studies in order to empower themselves and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
