The late Daiton Somanje’s estate will now be run by his son, Faheem, the courts have decreed. Josphat Somanje, brother to Daiton, led the Somanje family in a legal battle to stop the second wife, Esther Musango, from controlling the estate.
Speaking to the media, Josphat said he had no personal interest in his brother’s estate but only wanted to see Daiton’s offspring benefit. But it appears that he tried to have himself appointed executor, a move that did not sit well with the family members.
“During the court session, relatives were asked to vote for the person they wanted to take over the estate and Faheem won. Josphat only got two votes,” he said.
A close family member, who was at the meeting, said the family was happy with the judgment.
“He was not doing it for the family because the manner he conducted the issue was suspicious,” he said.
But Josphat said he was a happy man because they have reclaimed what belongs to them. “Zvaiitawo here kuti vana vese vashaye chekubata zvese zvaenda kwa Musango? (Was it proper for the children to suffer?) “ he queried.
Josphat, who once stole the limelight with his songs “Haulume”, again dismissed alegations by other family members that he was after his brother’s estate.
“I was doing it for the children not for myself. There is no way I would want them to suffer,” he said.
He said he was happy because they had reclaimed what belongs to them. “I urge Faheem to remain focused because he still haa a lot to do for the family and to keep the assets,” he said.
Musango yesterday said she respected the court’s decision.
“I have no problem with the judgment and I will work together with the family as well,” she said.
Faheem said he was happy that God had answered his prayers. “God is great and that is a big relief for me and all my siblings. Our relationship with my stepmother remains good,” he said.
The source said that Daiton’s first wife, Anna Kezias, has since distanced herself from anything to do with the estate saying that she has already moved on with her life since she had separated with Daiton before his death.
