INYATHI Ward 8 Councillor Ignatious Khabo is redoubling his efforts to accelerate develoment projects in the area following the outstanding performance of Somvubu High School – the 2026 Secretary’s Merit Award winners.
Somvubu High School’s recognition comes after the educational institution was awarded for excellence in academic performance.
“This is a proud moment for our ward. Somvubu High Schoo’s achievement inspires me to do more for the community. When our schools succeed, it gives us confidence that progress is possible when we support education,” said Clr Khabo.
Clr Khabo pledged to do implement more developmental projects such as improving access to water for learners and the community.
“I believe that when learners have easy access water, they dedicate more time to learning. We plan to step up efforts to drill additional boreholes in the community and solarise them so that children will no longer have to travel long distances in search of water,” he said.
Since his election into office in the 2023 Harmonised Elections, Cllr Khabo has drilled in village 5 and 6 in Ward 8.
The councillor said existing development initiatives such as grading of roads will continue.
“Somvubu High School’s success has given me the zeal to do more. We’ve been working on providing water and we will keep pushing,”
Somvubu High Schook, established in the year 2000 as arural boarding school, now enrols 1 345 learners.
The school achieved 100 percent pass rate at Advanced level for three consecutive years from 2023.
School headmaster Mr Khumbulani Sibanda attributed much of the institution’s to a work ethic by the teachers and staff members.
