IT is only caring parents who can have their hearts broken, but still love the errant children with every little bit of their shattered hearts.

Such is the tale of a Chimanimani woman, Bethrine Mafudze, whose 30-year-old son is in the habit of emotionally and verbally abusing her.

Mafudze, however, could not stomach the verbal diarrhoea and heartbreak anymore and dragged her son, Prince Rambwi, to acting Chief Saurombe’s court recently.

She said despite her undying love for her first born son, the insults are demeaning her and she is fast losing respect in the community because of her disrespectful son.

Acting Chief Saurombe found Prince guilty of abusing his mother.

Said acting Chief Saurombe as he delivered his ruling: “Your biological mother cannot lie against you in this court. Approaching this court shows that she was hurt by the words you uttered and you should be ashamed of yourself. While your mother wants the best out of you, you are causing her untold emotional pain. Such uncouth behaviour should stop forthwith.

“Do not challenge your parents, especially your mother. You will regret it for the rest of your life. Your mother is not your blood relative and you should not mess around with her. You should be careful on how you deal with her. Considering what I have heard before this court, she is very angry with you.

“You should ask for her forgiveness. You should appease her before she dies because if she passes on while still bitter, you will suffer the consequences. Ngozi yekutanda botso haungaigoni (appeasing the aggrieved spirit of your mother will not be child’s play),” he said.

Mafudze told the court that she has become the laughing stock in her community as of her son hurls abusive words at her in public.

“He hurls unprintable words at me in public. This happened after I reprimanded him against tilling his grandmother’s land. She wanted to use the piece of land, but my own son shouted vulgar words at me.

“I was so hurt that l even contemplated committing suicide. He insulted me in the presence of my other children. From then on, his siblings are no longer respecting me,” said the woman.

She also said Prince has also labelled her a woman of loose morals.

Prince initially denied insulting his mother, but later admitted and apologised to her.

He blamed his unbecoming behaviour to drug and alcohol abuse.

He was ordered to appease his mother with a goat or US$45.
