Song and dance in Murehwa. . . . . . as Mudarikwa siblings graduate

Ruvimbo Sharon graduated with a Master of Arts degree from Sydney College of Divinity, a Bachelor of Surgery with honours from Monash University as well as a Bachelor of Biomedical Science from Griffith University.
Grace is a B.Com Honours graduate in Information Systems and Technology from the University of KwaZulu Natal and also holds a B.Sc in Computer Science from the same university.

Rutendo Shyln completed a Bachelor of Social Science and a Bachelor of Laws degree with Rhodes University while Mandivavarira graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and Masters of Laws in Human Rights Laws from the University of Cape Town.
The four graduates were full of praise for their father whom they described as a man who always encouraged them to study hard.

“He believes in education and we are glad to have such a father and we hope others will emulate this,” Ruvimbo said.
The usually serene area reverberated to song and dance as the artistes, who included Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria, Takesure Muronzi, Masimba Edenga, Mbira Dzenharira, Barura Express, Moses Rwizi, Douglas Chimbetu and dance group Ngoma Dzepasi alternated on stage to entertain the over 1 000- strong crowd that attended the event.

The gala, probably the first in the area, threw everyone in a celebratory mood, as they all partook in the wining and dancing, regardless of their social standing.
It was a festive moment for the rural folk who took time to make merry as some of the country’s leading musicians took to the stage.
What also added to the crowd’s enjoyment was that they were seeing some of the musicians for the first time and at no cost at all!

If anything, those who attended the all-night music extravaganza described it as a unique gala, because of its clientele, environment and purpose.
For what they are galas are usually musical fetes specifically for national events, but this one was a family gathering meant to celebrate with the Mudarikwas clan following the graduation of the four.

Mbira Dzenharira, who are one of the country’s leading mbira groups, were in fine form and put up a performance befitting a traditional event when they unleashed their hits like “Todya Pfora”, among                          others.
Young dendera musician Douglas Chimbetu proved why he is one of the country’s rising stars when he also thrilled audiences with a polished act, that saw him

playing songs by his late uncle Simon.

Revellers identified with the songs and Douglas did justice with his voice and instrumentation, which were up to scratch.
Madzibaba Zakaria proved why he is one of the country’s leading musicians when he ushered people on a music voyage with his songs that included “Terera Mazano”, a track which is laden with nuggets of wisdom.

His dancers — “The Stork Birds” — were a joy to watch and sent the crowd into frenzy.
There was everything for everyone as Jiti musician Takesure Muronzi did what he knows best and his song “Maticha” was the theme song of the event as he used it to pay tribute to the work that teachers do in imparting knowledge to students.

Muronzi also played some of his notable hits, “Tsombori”, and “Tondori”, sending the crowd into a revelling mood. The party mood was probably heightened by imbibers, who took the dance floor in a bid to outshine one another.
Those who loved gospel music had something to smile about when gospel group Masimba Edenga put up a spirited performance.

Several politicians who graced the event could be seen mixing and mingling with the multitudes that attended the festivities.
Among the high-profile guests at the gala were the Minister of State Security Cde Sydney Sekeramayi, Airforce Commander Air Marshal Perrance Shiri, prominent businessman and Mashonaland East

Zanu-PF provincial chairman Ray Kaukonde, politicians Bright Matonga and David Parirenyatwa.
