BUSINESSMAN Mr Wicknell Chivayo’s ex-wife, Sonja Madzikanda and her mother, Tabitha, spent another night behind bars after their highly anticipated bail ruling failed to proceed yesterday due to the absence of the presiding magistrate. The pair, who first appeared in court on Wednesday, had been expecting a bail determination yesterday before magistrate Ms Nyaradzo Manokore, who was unable to attend court because she was unwell.
The matter was subsequently postponed to today.
Sonja and her mother are facing charges of cyberbullying and harassment.
It has also turned out the bank account that was initially stated as being a point of conjecture is not with Fbc Bank but that Mrs Madzikanda is an employee with the bank.
According to the State, during her marriage to Mr Chivayo, Sonja allegedly unlawfully accessed his cellphone, downloaded several photographs and videos, and shared them with her mother.
Prosecutors further allege that the two used AI-generated photographs purporting to show Mr Chivayo in association with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
It is alleged that the pair later published the photographs on various social media platforms, where the images and videos quickly went viral.
The State says the publication of the material caused Mr Chivayo substantial emotional distress and humiliation.
Ms Monalisa Magwenzi prosecuted.
