A Chigodora man is accusing his relatives of ‘sending’ a lightning bolt that struck his homestead and left his wife paralysed.

The man also claims that he has witnessed countless mysterious occurrences in his life.

When he appeared before Headman Chigodora’s court last week on Saturday, Elisha Chidhugu said he consulted traditional healers who told him that the lightning bolt that struck his homestead was not natural, but a result of sorcery.

He said due to sorcery, a series of misfortunes have been affecting him since his grandmother’s death and his subsequent inheritance of her land.

The man broke down as he explained that he has never enjoyed his wealth due to bad luck.

“I have a Mercedes Benz which I rarely use. I rarely drive it because I was told that if I do that, it will claim my life.

“I have had numerous unexplained accidents with the vehicle because my jealous relatives do not want to see me leading a comfortable life.

“They want me dead because of the good land that I inherited from my late grandmother,” he said.

Elisha also said because of his relatives’ jealous, a bolt of lightning struck his homestead and his wife got paralysed.

“At one time, I thought the spiritual healers were lying that my relatives were behind my misfortunes, but this was proven after none of them visited to check on us after the lightning incident.

“My wife is battling for her life but they do not care,” he wept before the community court.
He said he has stopped constructing his eight-roomed house because of the endless calamities befalling him.

“I was also told that once I finish constructing my eight-roomed house and move into it, that will be the end of my life. I am currently staying in a three-roomed house with my ailing wife because I am afraid of what will befall us if l finish constructing the bigger house,” said Chidhugu.

He added: “When my grandmother died, they refused to contribute anything towards her funeral, and I had to do everything by myself, including unveiling her tombstone.

“They told me that I should carry the burden alone as I had benefitted from her estate more than anyone else. I am leading a very miserable life and the court should assist me,” he said.
However, Chidhugu’s aunt, Ennet Chidhugu, said she was in the dark about her nephew’s misfortunes.

She claimed that Chidhugu is occupying her parents’ land, adding that she wants it back.

“I am the one who allowed him to occupy the land and I now want it back. He should move out or share the proceeds that he is getting from selling part of the land.

“I have nothing to do with his misfortunes. I never bewitched him and my hands are clean.
“All I want is my parents’ land back,” charged the woman.

Chidhugu said his aunt also sold part of the land.

In his ruling, Headman Chigodora had no kind words for the Chidhugu family.

He ordered them to help Chidhugu with his spiritual problems and also castigated Ennet for eyeing her nephew’s inheritance.

He said he will summon the whole family to appear before his court.

Both Chidhugu and his aunt were both fined US$300 for selling State land.

“If you no longer want State land, you should surrender it back.

“Do not sell State land because it does not belong to you. A lot of people are looking for land, but you should not sell it as this is criminal. As a result, you will pay US$300 each for the land that you sold,” ruled Headman Chigodora.
