Legendary mbaqanga band, Soul Brothers has announced a two-show tour in Zimbabwe that will see them play in Bulawayo and Maphisa.
The Soul Brothers have not performed in Zimbabwe for over five years and their return will be welcomed by their legion of fans who cut across culture, tribe and generation.
Now solely led by Moses Ngwenya after the death of his long-time partner in crime, David Masondo, the Soul Brothers are hitting the road at the end of the year, performing at two shows on this tour.
The Soul Brothers took to social media to announce their impending tour with dates set for December 22 in Bulawayo and December 25 in Maphisa. Indications are that the Bulawayo show is likely to take place at the City Hall although details are still a bit sketchy.
Having started as a five-member band back in 1976, Soul Brothers have come a long way and met many challenges along the road, including the loss of four of the original members. Masondo, who was the band’s lead singer for years, was one of the last two surviving original members. His death in 2015 left Ngwenya as the sole survivor.
Still active and determined to keep the spirit of Soul Brothers alive, Ngwenya and his band will give those in the South of the country, a taste of what it was like to witness the first wave of the mbaqanga scene, minus the timeless dance moves and vocals led by Masondo, whenever the legends came to town.
The entire Soul Brothers music catalogue is one for the ages and their fans will sing along from the moment Ngwenya plays the first note. – @RealSimbaJemwa
