THE much-awaited Masters’ Pool Tournament, a preserve of adults above the age of 40, rolls into life at Soul City Border Post venue tomorrow (Saturday).
Talented, Marvellous ‘Sir Villa’ Chigwada will be out to defend his title after winning the same event that was held at Golden Peacock Hotel on January 28.
The Masters’ Pool Competition, which is being run under the auspices of the Mutare Pool League (MPL), was designed to give adult players above 40 years of age a chance to compete among themselves in a sport that is now being played by much younger and more talented players.
The Masters’ Pool Competition is a major event on the MPL calendar that is held four times in a year.
MPL fixtures secretary, Lloyd Samanga confirmed that all is set for the competition.
“We will strictly adhere to the laid out age limit. No one under the age of 40 will play. This is a major event on our calendar that is meant to give a platform to adult players above the age of 40 to compete among themselves.
“The game of pool has evolved over the years, and we now have much younger players, hence the deliberate decision to have this Masters’ tournament.
“All is set for the event and the hosts, Soul City Border Post, have also confirmed their preparation for the event. We anticipate to have good time enjoying the game of pool at the border,” said Samanga.
Meanwhile, competition in the MPL 2023 season is getting stiffer with each passing week as log leader, Rozvie Empire maintain their grip at the summit of the table.
Second placed Beer Garden, Villa Spot in third position and star-studded Shoverland are, however, still within shouting distance in the race for the coveted league championship gong.
Rozvie Empire ensured they keep their place at the top of the log standings when they trounced little T One 15-9, while Villa Spot also maintained pressure on the log leaders, thanks to a well-deserved 18-6 demolition of harmless and hapless Acid.
