Soul Jah Love soils self, fails to turn up for show

CONQUERING family godfather, Soul Jah Love soiled himself in a hotel room last Saturday after allegedly taking one two many and subsequently failed to turn up for a show at The Platinum (formerly Pick and Save) in Mutare.

The Ndini uya uya hitmaker disappointed his legion of fans who had travelled from all parts of the country for the show which was scheduled to start at 8pm.

Although one member of the Conquering Family argued that the dreadlocked chanter was diabetic, sources interviewed confided in this newspaper that he had consumed some potent cough syrup Broncleer and passed out.

His manager, Tafadzwa Brian Mudaiswa, was quoted in our sister paper, The Herald, as saying the musician had not eaten in time and had collapsed after failing to inject himself since he is diabetic.

One staff member at the hotel said: “Soul Jah Love’s team told us that he was not feeling well. They closely guarded his room. We understand he never came out of the room till the following day,” she said.

Show promoter, Isau Mupfumi did his best, to no avail, to convince revellers that the controversial musician would appear on stage.

At around 4am and with Soul Jah Love out of sight, revellers started trooping out of the venue in disgruntlement. Some angry patrons threw empty beverage cans on the stage when the Conquering Family minus Soul Jah Love appeared, intending to entertain fans.

The diminutive chanter Ras Pompy later provided entertainment up to the wee hours of Sunday morning.

However, when journalists tracked the Handichabatika singer at a local hotel, he was literally switched off.

Soul Jah Love was semi-naked and half-dead. He could not move any part of his body. The room he was sleeping in was stinking and one could easily mistake the room for a children’s ward.

A few unidentified members of the Conquering family were seen cleaning up the mess. A heap of soiled blankets was packed at the corner.

When contacted for comment, Mupfumi said he had paid Soul Jah Love $750 and had wanted to pay the remainder of the same amount after show.

“I am disappointed. He let his fans down and it is unacceptable. He will perform at the venue again anytime soon. Fans will possibly pay a dollar to watch him performing.

However, we would like to apologise to our fans for the inconvenience caused.

“It is never our intention to disappoint our patrons. We hail their maturity as well. Fans kept composed especially when Ras Pompy showed up on stage. I can’t confirm if he was drunk or not. I am also not sure if he has health problems,” Mupfumi said.

Hundreds of people who had paid for the show were seen mingling outside the spacious venue waiting for the musician to show up first.

Ironically, his rival in the dancehall genre, Seh Calaz had the previous night staged a memorable show at the same venue. He came on time and left his fans crying for more.
