The much hyped Zimdancehall show hosted by Aftershock Entertainment at Super Label Club in Harare was a full-house event and various artistes took to the stage to entertain revellers last Friday. However, the show was marred by the non-appearance of husband and wife team of Soul Jah Love and Bounty Lisa, whose phone numbers were unavailable all weekend.
Super Label Club manager Rogers Chinoperekwei expressed his disappointment over the artistes’ behaviour and revealed it was not the first time for Soul Jah Love to miss a show without an excuse.
“This is not the first time that these dancehall artistes have breached a contract and missed shows without giving any reasons for their absence.
“They cannot give excuses but we always give them an advance payment as soon as they sign the contracts with us,” said Chinoperekwei.
Meanwhile, the best performer of the night was undoubtedly Dzivarasekwa-bred chanter Emegy “Freeman” Chizanga who made the crowd go wild as he dropped hit after hit including “Handina Godo”, “Daira”, “Vapfumi”, “Maghetto Youths” and “Joina City” among others.
Other artistes also did not disappoint, including young chanter Ras Pompy, T. Makwikwi, Princo Spice, Ricky Fire, Sniper Storm and rising female chanter Lady B from Chitungwiza.
It has been established that Soul Jah Love and Bounty Lisa were scheduled to perform at another show in Mabvuku on the same night, bringing out the question of how professional our artistes really are in the volatile music industry.
Chinoperekwei pointed out that it was not only the reputation of the artistes at risk, but also that of music promoters as well as the hosts of such shows who will suffer loss of confidence from patrons.
“The musicians should realise that this is business and not some funny games because we invest a lot of time and money in order to provide entertainment to music lovers who attend the shows.
“If they act like that for big shows or out of the country they will be sued and they will not like the results,” fumed Chinoperekwei.
