“Sour Milk”, a regional movie by South Africa-based filmmaker Melgin Tafirenyika is set to première on February 7 at Eastgate’s Ster Kinekor cinema.
Tafirenyika is the brains behind regionally acclaimed movie, “I Will Marry Myself” that screened on DStv’s Africa Magic.
“I was a newbie in the film industry when I did ‘I Will Marry Myself’ but its success made me realise that with more training, greater things could be achieved.
We also put in more resources and worked with a team of seasoned cast and crew members to create a great movie,” said Tafirenyika who also stars in the film.
The model cum-filmmaker said the premier would be the first with two more being held in South Africa and England later on during the year.
He said the red carpet premier will be star studded, featuring ‘A’ list celebrities from South Africa and Nigeria who are part of the cast.
“Co-writer Anderline Egbuhuzor who is Nigerian journalist based in the United Kingdom will be amongst the guests together with some of the co-stars,” he said.
The premier will then follow a number of screenings at Ster Kinekor in a move that filmmaker described as a new dawn in the local film industry.
The film makes a grand entrance on the scene with rave reviews when it made its debut at Zimbabwe International Film Festival last year.
M-Net Africa has also expressed its interest in commissioning the film because of its brilliant storyline.
“The movie is receiving rave reviews on different platforms and we have been commended for tackling the issue of HIV in a way many people can relate to,” he said.
On that note, Tafirenyika urged fellow filmmakers to fully harness the digitalisation initiative in the local film industry.
He said the move was an opportunity for growth in the film industry and the ball was in their court to draw local viewers back from regional television Dstv
“Sour Milk” is an emotional story that exposes the dilemma faced by women in their lives where most women persevere and turn out alright, others struggle and turn out broken and many manage, but end up losing themselves and the values they once upheld.
The storyline creates universal awareness that marriage should be a place of peace; happiness and tranquillity for every woman where they should be inspired as marriage is supposed to provide security and the union of mankind.
Finding the right person remains the mystery and intrigue in every relationship; when does a woman know if she’s found the right person . . . during a relationship or halfway into the marriage?
Tafirenyika has proved his versatility in a quest to be a jack of two trades and a master of both.
