HARARE’S south-western suburbs that include Glen View, Glen Norah and Budiriro, have been facing severe water shortages in the past weeks, owing to vandalism of one of the major water lines to the areas.
Harare City Council Water Department head, Engineer Mabhena Moyo said the vandalised pipes have since been repaired and the affected suburbs were now expected to receive rationed water.
“The (water) line that feeds Marimba reservoir (had been vandalised), so it affected the south-western suburbs. But, it was repaired yesterday (Friday) and rationed water supply should be restored,” he said.
Engineer Moyo also said the city fathers had submitted a request to Zesa for exemption from electricity cuts on power lines to water pumping systems.
“We appealed (to Zesa), through the Ministry of Local Government (Public Works and National Housing) and they said they are waiting until the (electricity) situation improves,” he said.
The city has been facing water challenges due to a shortage of treatment chemicals.
However, Government recently came to the rescue and availed $42 million for the procurement of the water treatment chemicals.
