Southern region desperate for sponsors

THE Zifa Southern Region is sweating to secure sponsorship for the 2016 Division One league with only a month and a half before the campaign kicks off.

The Southern Region has been surviving from hand to mouth over the years, with individuals and the corporate world only chipping in with players’ incentives every month.

The only confirmed notable sponsorship the league has managed to retain is the Player of the Month and Top Goal Scorer of the Month awards bankrolled by Nokel Security.

The security firm sponsored the same awards in the 2015 season.

Southern Region chairman Musa Mandaza said they had sent an SOS to potential sponsors around the city and beyond in a bid to make the forthcoming season bigger and more competitive.

“We’ll be holding a preliminary meeting to discuss our future as a league, especially the sponsorship issue because we want this season to have more sponsors than before.

“We’ve one that’s promising, but we’re yet to finalise and put pen to paper before we kick off our season,” said Mandaza.

“Having a sponsor for various categories is a good thing because it pushes teams and players to work harder knowing that they’ll be rewarded for their efforts,” he said.
