A Zifa Southern Region Division One select side will next week play against a Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) team to commemorate the 44th Defence Forces Day at White City Stadium.
The match is meant to celebrate the dedication of the country’s uniformed forces and their commitment to protecting national sovereignty, upholding justice and maintaining law and order.
Defence Forces Day is a national public holiday which is celebrated a day after the Heroes’ Day commemorations.
“Our league has been invited to be part of the Defence Forces Day celebrations and as such, the Zifa Southern Region Division One League select side will be part of the 44th edition of the celebrations by providing a select side that will take on a ZDF team. It’s going to be a big match,” said Zifa Southern Region Division One League spokesperson Blessing Mbwanda.
Inform ZPC Kariba, who are the Southern Region Division League log leaders and are yet to taste a defeat will be expected to provide bulk of the players in the select side, chief among them being free scoring Justine Kaunda.
At the start of this week, the Southern Region Division One League took a two weeks break after their fixtures schedule reached the halfway mark.
Mbwanda said while a break will afford their affiliates sometime to rest, they will also take time to deal with their fixtures backlog.
“We want to clear the fixture backlog and will have a Week Seven match between Ajax Hotspurs and Adachi. We will also have a Week 10 fixture between Zimbabwe Saints and Mainline taking place so that they all become at par with other teams,” said Mbwanda.
The rescheduled two games will take place at Luveve Stadium on Sunday.
The game between Ajax Hotspurs and Adachi will start at 12 noon and the tie between Zimbabwe Saints and Mainline will kick-off at 3pm.
