Southerton Constituency residents are calling for the resignation of area legislator, Mr Peter Moyo, citing gross incompetence and dereliction of duty.
The call comes after some MDC Alliance member demanded a farm from Government, which has been interpreted by residents to mean that Mr Moyo wants to enrich himself at the expense of his voters, who live side by side with uncollected garbage, endure erratic water supplies and bad roads.
Said Mr Moyo during Parliament’s Question and Answer time last week: “How many members from the opposition have benefited (from the Land Reform Programme)? We are all Zimbabweans and we deserve to be allocated land.”
However, Government insisted there was no discrimination in terms of land redistribution, saying any Zimbabwean who wants land will get it.
Zimbabwe Combined Residents Association (Zicora) president Mr McSteven Nyabvure expressed displeasure over the Mr Moyo’s utterances.
“As residents we expect the people that represent us to speak out the concerns of the people not issues that address their lavish lifestyles.
“We were looking forward to seeing Mr Moyo as our MP informing the National Assembly about the very real challenges affecting the constituency, he is not even visible in the constituency,” said Mr Nyabvure.
An MDC Alliance member who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity said the Zanu PF shadow MP, Mr Andrew Makahamadze was more visible in the constituency, interacting with the people compared to Mr Moyo.
“MPs from our party are reluctant to carry out their tasks. They are not visible in the constituency, we even appreciate what the shadow MP Mr Makahamadze is doing,” said the official.
Government embarked upon the land reforms in 2000, to address inherited colonial land imbalances and ensure all land was productively used.
However, the MDC criticised the agrarian reforms saying they were populist and aimed a political gimmick.
