Spanish media praise Europa winners Sevilla

MADRID. — The Spanish Press has splashed with Sevilla’s exciting Europa League win against Benfica with Marca saying the club’s victory offers further proof of Spain’s current dominance of world football. After the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, Spanish clubs will hold all of Europe’s major trophies while their international team will still be reigning World Cup and European Championships holders.

Marca also reminded us that the monopoly will be complete when the European Super Cup is played between two Spanish teams ahead of next season. The so-called ‘Curse of Guttmann’, which has seen the Portuguese club lose eight consecutive European finals since the former disgruntled manager Bela Guttman claimed the club would never win in Europe again after securing a second European Cup in 1962 but not the pay rise he demanded, also featured prominently. — Mailonline/Reuters.
