the Spar Rugby sevens summer series at Old Georgians Sports Club.
Traditional giants Harare Sports Club, Old Hararians, Old Miltonians, District Dragons and the hosts will once again feature among the favourites in the 16-team tournament.
Sports Club would however, have to lift their game after being humiliated by a fired up District Dragons side that handed them a 34-0 hiding.
In that game Dragons drew inspiration from the Cheetahs trio of Jacques Leitao, Fortune Chipendo and Graham Kaulback
National Rugby League chairman and tournament co-odinator Nody Kanyangarara said yesterday he was expecting some explosive games given that today’s matches would culminate in the grand final.
“Today’s performance should be very exciting, all the teams are aiming at winning.
“We are expecting the teams to polish up and play well,” said Kanyangarara.
Cheetahs international player Daniel Hondo who is the player-coach for Sports Club said his team had put behind them the disappointment of last weekend’s loss and had been working hard at training.
“Our match against District Dragons was tough but we believe we been working hard at training and working on our mistakes.
“I believe if we were to meet the same team again it will be a different story and we will play better and even win.
Underdogs Airforce who were in Pool C that included Bulawayo giants Old Miltionains, Panthers and Sports Club II believe they also turn around their fortunes this time around.
Airforce committee member Philip Moses said they had made a number of changes to the team that has been doing battle in the last two weeks.
“We are aiming to show some fire works in our matches. We have made some changes by putting some new players in our team and I am confident they will win.” said Moses.
But with most teams generally improving on their game, some surprise results cannot be ruled out. Mbare, Mabvuku, Chitungwiza, Southern City and Police Defenders may be rank outsiders but any of these teams could spring a surprise.
“Most of our players have left Mbare for the big clubs, six of our players have joined other clubs.
