Zimbabwe has established specialised courts to handle corruption cases.
Speaking at the social dialogue on corruption, Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) chairperson Mr Michael Reza said specific magistrates were selected to run these courts, with each province now having a dedicated anti-corruption court.
Mr Reza said Zimbabwe is one of the few countries with comprehensive parallel courts conducting trials.
“The anti-corruption court system includes both trial courts and appellate courts,” he said.
“Zimbabwe joins a few countries with anti-corruption courts, including Botswana, Burundi, Sri Lanka, Albania and Madagascar.
“The reasons for creating specialised anti-corruption court include efficiency, integrity and effective conclusion of court cases.”
Mr Reza said this also allows judges and prosecutors to have special knowledge of financial crimes.
