A JOSHUA Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic student in Gwanda has been fined $100 or 30 days imprisonment for striking his wife several times on the head with a wooden bench after she spilled water on their electric stove.
Simangaliso Ndlovu, 38, of Jacaranda suburb was convicted on his own plea of guilty to assault by magistrate, Arafat Kozanai yesterday.
The court heard that Ndlovu physically abused his wife, Sllyster Nkala, 31, an employee of the Registrar’s Office in Gwanda.
Prosecutor, Moses Gondongwe said:
“On May 15 this year at around 6AM, the accused and complainant had a misunderstanding over the use of an electric stove. The complainant twice spilled water which had been placed on the stove by the accused.”
He said Ndlovu was angered by Nkala’s mistakes and assaulted her.
The court heard that Ndlovu used a wooden bench to bash his wife.
“Ndlovu dragged the complainant outside the kitchen and hit her several times on the head with a wooden bench, thereby inflicting injuries on her head,” Gondongwe said.
Nkala reported the matter to the police and was referred to Gwanda Provincial Hospital for treatment.
Ndlovu was subsequently arrested.
