GOSPEL music lovers are set for a spiritually charged festive season as the high-energy Spirit Praise Worship Team prepares to launch its fourth live recording project, Receive Our Praise, on December 20 in Harare.

The nine-track album promises a vibrant blend of high-tempo praise and contemplative worship, designed to draw believers into a season of thanksgiving, reflection, and spiritual renewal.

Director Learnmore Tavengwa says the project represents months of prayer, meticulous planning, and creative collaboration.

“We are thrilled to release our fourth live album, it is a culmination of hard work, prayer and spiritual preparation,” Tavengwa said.

“Being a live-performance outfit, we are presenting it as it was meant to be experienced, live giving our fans and families an early Christmas gift. The team is ready, and we are excited to launch in style, featuring our mentors, The Charambas.”

Spirit Praise has long been known for capturing the raw energy of worship in real-time, with most of its recordings taking place during evangelical crusades rather than in studio-controlled environments.

Tavengwa explained that this approach is intentional, rooted in the team’s evangelical philosophy.

“Our brand is built on ministry, we believe we are called to evangelise and minister to lost souls, and that drives everything we do,” he said.

This live approach gives the music an unmistakable authenticity, allowing listeners to experience worship as it unfolds among congregants. It is this raw, real-time energy that has defined Spirit Praise since the release of their breakthrough project, Pandatsika Ndatora, which featured gospel favourite Sharon Cherayi.

By merging traditional rhythms with modern worship, the group has carved a distinct niche in Zimbabwe’s gospel scene, attracting a dedicated following while staying true to its spiritual roots.

Tavengwa acknowledges that some critics have questioned the group’s decision not to chase charts or dominate large-scale concerts, but he insists that Spirit Praise measures success differently.

“Some groups chase chart positions, which is fine, but Spirit Praise is focused on fulfilling its God-given mission,” he said. “Our concern is not popularity, but the transformation of lives through our music. We aim to reach those God has assigned to us.”

Today, Spirit Praise Worship Team consists of 40 musicians and 30 volunteer members handling prayer, ushering, and protocol duties — a structure that underscores their commitment to ministry over fame.

This year’s album, Receive Our Praise, is a continuation of that ethos, designed to inspire, uplift and reconnect believers with the spirit of worship.

“We want people to experience the presence of God through our music, not just enjoy melodies,” Tavengwa said.

“The album is meant to remind believers why we worship and how praise can heal, comfort, and transform lives.”

In addition to its spiritual intent, the live project also showcases the team’s musical evolution, blending energetic praise songs with reflective worship tracks that encourage congregants to reflect on gratitude, hope, and personal growth as the year comes to a close.

Fans can expect familiar museve-driven gospel elements, intricate harmonies, and moments that highlight both individual and collective artistry.
