ATHLETES camped at Northlea High School in preparation for the Confederation of Southern African Schools Sports Association (Cosassa) games set for Lesotho have expressed satisfaction with the camping conditions as well as the diet.
Most athletes interviewed said they were being adequately looked after and were happy with the conditions as the countdown to the Lesotho trip continues.
“We are happy with the diet that is being provided. I’m sure the food we’re eating constitutes of a balanced diet and our coaches took that into consideration. So far we have a meal before a training session and we’re given enough time to rest before a training session so that we start while fresh,” said Brian Ndlovu, an athlete.
The athletes said the coaches were also willing to address any problems they might face during the course of the training camp.
They also admired the training facilities available at Northlea High School and White City Stadium where they trained yesterday.
“We are being treated with care and can air any complaints if something is not going well. We had a training session at White City Stadium yesterday and the facilities are of international standards which is good because that’s what we will find in Lesotho,” said Tracy Musauki.
Assistant team manager Apinos Chiwara said the mission was to build unity among the athletes as they head for the games.
“Our aim is to create unity in our team as it prepares for the Games. The diet was carefully thought out and we considered the nutritional value of the food they are eating,” said Chiwara.
The training session ends on April 27 when they depart for the Games set to start on April 30 and end on May 2.
There they will be competing with teams from the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) in track and field events.
