Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza yesterday confirmed that there was need to honour musicians for their continued support. He, however, could not say what the prizes would be but said Goldtech Eletronics – a leading supplier of the latest electronics gadgets – were working on the prizes.
“We have had a number of musicians who have been part of the charity match since it inception.
“They have continuosly supported us by participating in the matches and we want to show them our appreciation,” Chipaz said.
He said there would be lots of entertainment come Saturday and Rufaro Stadium is expected to reveberate to live music. Matches to look forward include the print media versus electronic media, female artistes against female radio disc jockeys and the crunch Dynamos versus Black Rhinos, which will serve as a curtain- raiser for the main match between football legends and musicians.
Dancer Sandra Ndebele will be the captain for the women’s side while the players include Sehla Mtombeni, Fungisai Zvakavapano-Mashavave, Clare Nyakujara, Jean Masters, Agatha Murudzwa, Edith WeUtonga and Diana Samkange.
Gospel singer Mai Olivia Charamba will be on the touchline as the coach for the team.
The male team for musicians will include young artistes in the form of King Shaddy, Winky D, Sniper Storm, Peter Moyo, Nesto, Tryson Chimbetu, Suluman Chimbetu, Jah Prayzah, Guspy Warrior and Freeman.
Veterans include Somandla Ndebele, Victor Kunonga, Nicholas Zakaria, Alick Macheso, First Farai, Leonard Zhakata, Rodrick Chemudhara, Hosiah Chipanga, Allan Chimbetu, Charles Charamba. Superstar Oliver Mtukudzi retains the captain’s armband.
Since last week, the musicians have been training for the match showing how seriously they are taking the game.
Part of the proceeds from the match will assist musician Tedious Matsito who had his leg amputated.
Matsito rose to fame with his chart topper “Gede”.
