SPORT presents a platform for the youth to share developmental ideas to help uplift their communities and avoid idleness which tends to lead to errant and anti-social behaviour, Bulilima West legislator and Deputy Minister of Information Communication Technologies, Postal and Courier Services Dingumuzi Phuti said.
Speaking during the Dingumuzi Phuti Sports Fiesta at the weekend, which saw Bulilima West constituency’s 13 wards’ select sides competing in football and netball, Deputy Minister Phuti said the fiesta is an interaction platform for youths to share ideas on how to push back the frontiers of poverty and spearhead development in their communities.
Macingwane, Zimnyama, Dombolefu, Dombodema, Vulindlela, Malanswazi, Hingwe, Bambadzi, Ndolwane, Makhulela, Madlambudzi, Masendu and Nyele’s select teams will battle it out for the main gong to be contested in the finals on April 15 in Tokwana.
The fiesta is being held under the theme “The Youth are the hope of our future”.
“The events are meant to afford the youths an opportunity to interact and share ideas on how they could contribute to development in their respect areas,” said Deputy Minister Phuti.
He said the prize money that will be given to winning teams is meant to assist the youths to start income generating projects.
Deputy Minister Phuti said Government officials will also take the opportunity to encourage youths to register to vote. — @innocentskizoe
