More than 300 participants are expected to converge on Masvingo for the fourth edition of the sports management camp that will be held by the Sports Leadersa Institute of Zimbabwe (SLIZ) set for the weekend of 24- 26 November.
The camp will focus on sport nutrition and athlete development among other topics.
a?Some of the topics to be discussed during the summer camp include current global trends in physical education and sport, event management, sport nutrition and athlete performance. Speakers will also look at the new principles, concerns and values of the new curriculum, which embraces sport as a key component of education,a? said SLIZ president Russell Mhiribidi.
Officials from the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will be invited to talk about the new curriculum with a special emphasis on sports development.
a?We believe that for the new curriculum to be a success it requires a lot of input from all stakeholders in sport over and above the school teachers themselves.
a?Even the universities must clearly understand it, even associations and clubs officials must understand because the new curriculum deals with development of the athletes at their formative stage,a? he said.
The SLIZ president said they are hopeful of a huge turnout as the event has continued to grow over the years with delegates from as far as Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia expected to be part of the camp.
a?When we started we had only five participants and 11 facilitators but we soldiered on and the numbers have been improving with each camp.A Itas possible to have 300 participants this year because the quality of the product and the deliverables that participants get speaks volumes of the hard work we are putting into the camps,a? he added.
