The Sports Commission have reminded national associations that it is unlawful for them not to submit their audited financial statements.
The Sports Commission is empowered by the the provisions of the Sports Commission Act and the Statutory Instrument 342 of 1995 to get those financial statements. Zifa, the biggest national association, have failed to produce their audited financial statements.
Sports Commission board chairman, Joseph James, said the sports associations should submit their audited financial statements, activity reports for the past year, calendar of activities and estimates of income and expenditure for the ensuing year.
“I think it is very important and it is not a stick to beat you with but it is necessary for you to report on the activities that you would have undertaken.
“It should come naturally so that we do not seem as if we are asking you all the time for these reports and therefore can we please have those audited financial statements,” said James.
Apart from the governance issues, the meeting also agreed that there was need to ensure that the crafting of the National Sport strategy was fast-tracked.
