MANAGEMENT staff from the Sports Commission head office and provincial centres will today round off a five-day training workshop aimed at equipping them with skills to manage output from their affiliates.
The Integrated Results Based Management Training is being held at the Zifa Village and was officially opened by the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture, Thokozile Chitepo, on Wednesday.

Speaking at the workshop, Chitepo, said the training has underpinned the values that the Sports Commission attaches to training its personnel. “It is pleasing to note that the SRC is realigning its strategic plan so that it fits into the Integrated Results Based Management Framework (IRBM) which the Government adopted a few years ago.

“One of the aims of adopting IRBM is to realise efficient utilisation of resources and to also ensure that projects, which are started, are not abandoned midway before their fruition,” said Chitepo.

She also said that Government expected the sports sector to contribute to the realisation of the objectives of Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation.

“The workshop comes at a time when the Government has promulgated the Zim-Asset as a vehicle through which its programmes and activities will be rolled out.
“IRBM is, therefore, the management tool which will be used to ensure that the ideals of Zim-Asset are delivered,” she said.

Sports Commission’s corporate communications executive, Tirivashe Nheweyembwa, said the workshop was part of their capacity building initiatives for this year.
“The workshop is meant to manage results that are produced by the affiliates in terms of the projects and products.

“We also think that sport should contribute to the Gross Domestic Product and we have to look at the various ways in which the sports industries, like sports equipment manufacturing firms, should play a part,” said Nheweyembwa.
