THE Zimbabwe soccer team’s preparations for the World Cup African Zone Group Four qualifier against Angola in Luanda between November 8 and 10 got underway in Harare yesterday…minus new coach lan Porterfield.
Porterfield, who was engaged by Zifa last week, was reported to have excused himself from the team’s first training session at the National Sports Stadium yesterday because of business commitments.
Zifa senior administrative officer Lazarus Mhurushomana said Porterfield first had a meeting with the Minister of Sport, Recreation and Culture, Witness Mangwende, and later met Zifa chairman Leo. Mugabe.
The two commitments, said Mhurushomana, made it virtually impossible for Porterfield to conduct his maiden training session with the squad as expected. Mhurushomana, however, said that the British mentor would take the squad through their paces today.
