JUNIOR squash players will have an opportunity to sharpen their skills next week when they participate in a coaching clinic to be conducted by Zimbabwe Squash Academy Trust head coach Mashumba Mukumba at Belgravia Sports Club.The clinic is pencilled to run from August 26 to 28 with 30 participants expected take part.
Mukumba said the clinic is targeting juniors as they prepare for various international tournaments lined up for next year.
“We are going to have a coaching clinic for all the juniors from Under-9 to Under-19. It’s open to all juniors who play squash. “Registration is in progress right now and so far we have about 12 confirmation but we are expecting to have over 30.
We are trying to groom the children towards the All Africa Championships next year especially the Under-19, those are the ones that are going to play.
“We are also trying to prepare them for the Worlds which will be played in Namibia, it’s basically targeting the Under-19 again. Some are preparing for inter-provincials tournaments and country districts in South Africa,” said Mukumba.
Mukumba said the coaching clinics play a vital role in the development of the sport and its growth with some of the players getting the opportunity to join the sport under the Zimbabwe Squash Academy Trust at Belgravia Sports Club formed in 2009. It caters for disadvantaged children from high density suburbs.
