THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has fired a warning shot at the Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU), calling for the immediate resignation of the national executive board and committee amid ongoing governance chaos.
In a letter to ZRU CEO Sifiso Made, the SRC said the sport has been brought into disrepute and demanded compliance by Friday, 5 September 2025, warning that failure could see stringent disciplinary measures under Section 30 of the Sports and Recreation Commission Act.
“The SRC expects this recommendation to be implemented…failure of which the Zimbabwe Rugby Union must show cause why the SRC must not invoke section 30,” read the statement.
The move comes days after Rugby Africa president Herbert Mensah urged acting ZRU president Tapfuma Parirenyatwa to remain in office until a smooth transition is achieved.
“I believe this position, should it be left vacant, will be detrimental to the Union and rugby in the region as a whole,” Mensah said.
Parirenyatwa has since extended his term temporarily as the board awaits the final ruling on suspended president Losson Mtongwiza, expected next week.
Rugby in Zimbabwe remains at a crossroads.
