SRC donates to Khami

Schools and community sports teams received two soccer balls each per team for both boys’ soccer and girls’ netball and two volleyball balls each. The district also received six watering cans and a number of slashers to use for developing their community.

“The little that we access we give to our community and we thought to help Khami with some balls as they gear up for the YES games at the end of the year.

“Since YES also encompasses community development we gave the districts some watering cans and slashers to help in the community,” SRC sports co-ordinator Sam Dzvimbu said yesterday.

He said tree-planting was this year’s mandate for all the districts and as SRC they were going to help all the districts to achieve that mandate and they were going to donate equipment to all districts.

Khami District chairperson for the YES games Thokozile Tshabalala said they were grateful for the SRC donation but they could still do with more boosts.

“SRC have really helped us as our teams now have balls to train with and we also have equipment for our community development drive. We are grateful and I think this drive will help sports go a long way in our community.

“We, however, still need a lot of support as our grounds are in bad shape and need rehabilitation. As a result, we are calling upon for more partnerships in alleviating some of these challenges,” she said.

The YES games will be used as the curtain-raisers for the national Youth Games that will be hosted by Bulawayo next year.
