THE Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has said Masvingo province’s sporting programmes will now be poorer following the sudden death of Provincial Affairs Minister Shuvai Mahofa on Monday.
In its condolence message through acting director-general Joseph Muchechetere, the SRC said the late Mahofa was a staunch and avid supporter of sporting programmes across the length and breadth of Masvingo in her capacity as patron of the provincial National Youth Games team.
“Masvingo province’s sporting programmes are now poorer without Mahofa who was always ready to lend her support to the National Youth Games for Team Masvingo. Her involvement in sporting programmes was not only confined to her province, but also at a national level where she championed the cause of the girl child and women in general. She would challenge girls and women to assert their positions and to also occupy positions of influence,” said Muchechetere.
He said Mahofa’s love for sport and recreation programmes was not only unparalleled, but also indefatigable in that she stood resolutely for the cause of sport, especially for disadvantaged communities.
“Her wish was to see all communities accessing sport and recreation activities without hindrances. On behalf of the SRC board, management and staff and on my behalf, I would like to collectively convey our heartfelt condolences to the Mahofa family and His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde Robert Mugabe on the sad loss of a gallant daughter of the soil who was a champion of women’s emancipation and community development.”
