held in Bulawayo.
Last year Zimbabwe signed the protocol of agreement to host the 2014 edition of the Games. The Sports Commission recently conducted interviews for the chief executive post while more interviews are expected to be done this week for the posts of the director finance, director administration and director technical.
SRC corporate communications officer, Tirivashe Nheweyembwa, said the interviews are set for this week and they are hoping that by the end of this month the committee will be in place with an induction by the Zone Six secretariat set for the first week of July.
“We are hoping to beat the deadline.
“Preferably by the first week of July we should be having the Zone Six secretariat from Botswana to induct the Local Organising Committee and then from there they should actually start their work.
“We are lagging behind because we were supposed sign the protocol agreement 36 months ahead (of the Games),” said Nheweyembwa. Nheweyembwa said they have been consulting on the appointments to be made so that they have the right people for the job at hand.
“A lot of things have been happening behind the scenes and we are making a lot of consultations.
“The Games are being hosted in Bulawayo and it will make sense to have the bulk of the people from Bulawayo.
“Consultations have been done from Government level, we are meeting with the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture where we are exchanging notes and we are confident we will beat the deadline.
“The reason why we are making a lot of consultations is to make sure that we have the right people in place.
“It will seem like we are lagging behind if we don’t do what we are supposed to do,” said Nheweyembwa.
The SRC corporate communications officer said they were humbled by the response they got for the posts.
Last year’s Games were held in Zambia and Zimbabwe will be hoping to emulate their neighbours, who successfully hosted the last edition.
