SRC REP SINGS IN EX-ZIFA BOARD’S CORNER

A SPORTS and Recreation Commission representative has said there is no evidence proving that the sacked ZIFA bosses wrote some letters, which are now the subject of accusations of fraud filed against them, during a chaotic period in the administration of local football.

The ex-ZIFA executive members are Felton Kamambo, Philemon Machana, Stanley Chapeta, Joseph Mamutse and Bryton Malandule.

They were back in court yesterday where they appeared before magistrate Taurai Manuwere.

Quizzed by their lawyer, Admire Rubaya, the SRC representative, Sabastian Garikayi, said:

“Wellington Mupandare, (Xolisani) Gwesela and Kenny Ndebele and other club chairmen are the ones who told us that they had received these letters but, as a stand here, I cannot state for a fact that they (ex-ZIFA bosses) authored these letters.

Garikayi was asked to explain whether Mamutse, the then ZIFA secretary-general was suspended lawfully, and he conceded that he was just an employee of the association, not a board member, like the others.

Rubaya said:

“You purport to say that the accused persons were properly suspended, particularly Mamutse, he was an employee of ZIFA?

“And when you alleged that you suspended him, which section were you using to suspend him as an employee?”

Garikayi replied:

“The general secretary may not be a congress delegate or a member of any board of ZIFA as he is an employee regulated by a private contract, it’s true that he doesn’t sail in the same boat as the elected officials,” said Garikayi.

The trial resumes on October 31.

Oscar Madhume appeared for the State.
