THE Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education presented The 2020 Secretary’s Merit Award to St Albert’s High School on Friday.
Permanent secretary Tumisang Thabela said the Ministry has been recognising schools which responded to the call to join it as it prepared for the reopening of schools with a new way of doing business after Covid-19.
“It is through such adaptive and innovative leadership that we accord pupils, teachers, parents, the Responsible Authority and school administrators this prestigious coveted accolade,” said Thabela.
“St Albert’s High School has effectively embraced the Competence-Based Curriculum in equipping pupils with 21st century competencies and exit profiles underpinned by the principle of Ubuntu.
“The school offers a broad curriculum of technical-vocational education to its pupils giving space for everyone to participate in his or her area of interest, thereby ensuring that no pupil is left behind.
“For the technology and design it offers wood technology and design, agriculture and computer science.”
St Albert’s High School has maintained a high standard of performance above the national average pass rate at both O’ and A’ level public examinations for the past five years.
The school scored 84.2 percent and 98.7 percent at O’ and A’ level respectively in the year under review.
School projects such as gardening, broilers, layers, fish farming, cattle ranching, tuckshop and uniform manufacturing continued running throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
The proceeds from the ventures kept the school on its feet by partly paying its utility bills and salaries for workers when no fees and levies could be collected from parents during the Covid-19-induced lockdown.
