St Giles charity show on cards

Already, St Giles’ marketing team has organised a charity show where Sulumna, Jah Prayzah and Alexio are billed to perform.

The “Shaina” singer is riding on a wave of success and has been involved in a number of charity shows since 2009.
About the upcoming show, Alexio said: “I have been involved with the music school, in sports fun days and performed at the dinners.”

Motivated purely by their love for humanity, and social duty to give back to the community that has embraced their talents in music, the trio’s entry into charity work began with a tour of the hospital where they viewed the wards, social work department, and met and spent time with some of the patrons and staff.

The St Giles’ patrons were appreciative and welcoming towards their celebrity guests. The “Tsviriyo” singer expressed his keenness to be involved.
“The main purpose of this tour is to devise a plan on how to go about assisting St Giles. As artistes we harbour the same sentiments with other human beings. It is our mission to come up with a plan to give back and encourage the variety of people we meet with who are in a position to help so that we can help revamp the hospital,” said Jah Prayzah.

St Giles chief executive Bartholomew Msakwa welcomed the support of the musicians.
“St Giles is recovering from hyperinflation and we use every donation that we can get. Africa has a greater number of disabilities associated with poverty due to fewer rehabilitation facilities as compared to other continents. This results in strained resources. Our patients come from different backgrounds and some are unable to foot their bills and we have to make provision for that,” he said.

Salome Nziramasanga also from St Giles said they hoped the inclusion of artistes would impact positively in fund-raising for the centre.
St Giles has been functional for the past 47 years.

It is one of the country’s successful and leading rehab centres which has contributed immensely to the heath sector with its open door policy to assist people from all walks of life. The facility comprises a medical rehabilitation centre and a school, the latter catering for children with disabilities.

Common treatments offered for children are cerebral palsy and spina bifida while adults are mainly treated for strokes and spinal injuries resulting mainly from road accidents.
