THE Board of Directors of Moriel Infrastructure Group in South Africa has terminated its association with businessman, Mr Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama, as executive chairman and director with immediate effect, following a viral video showing him allegedly threatening women at a Sandton restaurant.
The company announced the decision in a statement on Sunday, after footage from Vlamo restaurant in Sandton on Friday, September 18, showed Mr Mudzinganyama threatening three women inside the bathroom.
In the video, he is heard saying: “I could put a bullet in you now… I will murder you now and walk.”
“The Board of Moriel Infrastructure Group has resolved to terminate its association with Mr Lawrence Mudzinganyama, both as Executive Chairman and as a Director, with immediate effect, following the disturbing incident at Vlamo restaurant on Friday evening. Mr Mudzinganyama has been removed from both positions.,” said Moriel Group in the statement.
“He will no longer represent, speak for or act on behalf of Moriel Infrastructure Group in any capacity.”
The company said the conduct shown in the footage was inconsistent with its values and that it unequivocally condemns violence, threats, abuse and intimidation directed at women.
Mr Mudzinganyama has subsequently issued an apology saying his language was “unacceptable and unjustifiable” and that he deeply regretted the fear and distress he caused.
Gauteng police confirmed that an intimidation case was registered at Randburg on 19 September.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the suspect was arrested on Sunday and released on warning to appear before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on 1 October 2026.
The incident has also prompted the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) to investigate Moriel’s appointment to two infrastructure-related contracts.
