St John’s Under-16 beat MCC

ST JOHN’S College scrum-half Justin Hammond scored two penalties and a conversion in the 18-10 win over Midlands Christian College at the Dairibord Schools Rugby Festival yesterday. Tamuka Mpofu touched down to give St John’s College a 5-0 led. Hammond then powered home a brilliant conversion. Tapiwa Sibanda and Thoko Mrewa scored two tries for Midlands Christian College.

St John’s College coach Benedict Chinakira said he was happy with his team’s progress.

“We are very happy with our team’s progress, our boys have not played the game in a long time.

“We are taking this festival as part of our pre-season preparations for the school league.

“The boys showed a lot of character, determination and good skills.

“The match was very competitive,” said Chinakira.

At the Chapel Field, Eaglesvale Under-16 side defeated Gifford 24-7 while Churchill Under-16 destroyed Ellis Robin 54-0.
