ST Pauls Musami, who won the domestic league championship in 1966 before disappearing from the scene, are enjoying a good start in the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One Soccer League.
But, their coach, Clifford Dzvairo, is bracing for a tough season.
St Pauls Musami have collected four points in their opening two matches on their return to Division One.
On Saturday the club registered their first win of the season in a 2-1 win over Renco Mine.
“This is a new season and a different one altogether. I believe this one is a bit challenging than the previous seasons I have presided as a coach before.
“We have stronger competition this time around compared to other regions. If you count the teams that are in the title chase you will understand what am talking about.
“All the same, it’s motivation to us to be among that group and we will give it all our energy till the last date. The goal is to enjoy, have fun along the way, and expose these youngsters,” he said.
Dzvairo added:
“You know it’s always good to win games especially when you’re playing at home.
“It’s all about defending your territory with pride like what the male lions do in the jungle. If it means you have to die, then die protecting your home. It’s worth it at the end of the day.
“It also gives you so much confidence now that you’re going to play away in the next fixture.
“But, altogether, that’s what we wanted, a set of maximum points to put ourselves in a good position from the beginning in terms of the table even if we know that this is a marathon but a positive start is also good for a positive finish,” he said.
