A CHIENDAMBUYA villager is battling for his life at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital after being stabbed in the stomach by a fellow villager on Sunday.

Peter Zvigare (23) and Gift Mandiedza (39) had a misunderstanding at a traditional ceremony function (chenura) of the late Headman Chiendambuya over who should play the drum.

Zvigare allegedly stabbed Mandiedza during the heated exchange and he was rushed to hospital with protruding intestines. Apparently, this was not the first time for Zvigare to resort to the use of violence to settle scores.

Last year, he allegedly attacked a fellow villager with an axe before fleeing to South Africa.

After attacking Mandiedza, Zvigare reportedly attempted to commit suicide by throwing himself in front of a moving bus along the Chiendambuya-Mayo Road.

However, the driver managed to avoid running over him and villagers effected a citizen’s arrest.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo confirmed the incident and said Mandiedza is in a critical condition, while Zvigare is assisting the police with investigations.
