He strangled the girl so as to conceal evidence since the girl could identify him as he lived in the same neighbourhood.
Stacy’s body was found near the Rugare Community Hall security wall by a man who was tending to his crops.
She was half naked while part of her blouse had blood stains. The girl had visited her relatives in Kambuzuma, which is adjacent to Rugare, for the weekend.
Stacy had been accompanied back home by her two cousins who later left her near the intersection of Kambuzuma and Nyashanu roads.
It is believed that she met the assailant who kidnapped her along the way. She had bruises inside her left thigh, while a bag containing clothes and towels lay beside the body.
Stacy’s black-and-white pant was more than a metre from the body and there were struggle marks at the scene.
Police questioned two people in connection with her murder.
Meanwhile a five-year-old girl was last Wednesday raped and killed by a man in Hwange as she was coming from school.
The man Jabulani Nyathi (22) has since been arrested in connection with the case.
National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi yesterday confirmed the incident.
He said last Wednesday the girl from Lubangwe Village left home for school at Nyongolo Primary School where she was doing grade zero.
“At around 12.30pm, she and her classmates were dismissed from school and she went home,” Chief Supt Nyathi said.
Investigations have so far revealed that Jabulani Nyathi followed and kidnapped her on her way from school.
Jabulani Nyathi is believed to have taken the girl into a bushy area where he raped her. He then allegedly hit her head with a sharp stone killing her on the spot.
“The suspect then dragged the body about 200 metres away from the scene and covered it with branches,” Chief Supt Nyathi said.
He said the following day a report of a missing child was made to the police culminating in searches being conducted.
Police first recovered a school bag that had a pant, sandals and a bottle of water under a tree before recovering the body which was covered, a few metres away.
“Investigations led to the arrest of Jabulani Nyathi on May 11. Further investigations on the case are continuing,” Chief Supt Nyathi.
Police have urged parents to accompany their children to and from school to avoid such incidents.
