THE Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) holds its hospitality congress today where staff development and marketing will be the key focus areas of discussion. The congress takes place in Victoria Falls from today up to Friday. The congress is an annual gathering of members of the HAZ and is expected to attract up to 180 delegates from across Zimbabwe for three days of discussions, networking and social interaction.
HAZ president Mr Tich Hwingwiri said the theme for the congress is “Putting People First.”
“The congress is open to anyone interested or involved in hospitality in Zimbabwe, especially but not exclusively members of HAZ, and is an opportunity for hospitality operators to strategise, share ideas, communicate and learn, as well as meet colleagues from across the country,” he said.
He said running concurrently with the congress will be the annual Hospitality Fair at which suppliers of products and services for the hospitality industry will have exhibition stands.
“We are hopeful of a large turnout of members and others for what promises to be a thoroughly useful and very informative event,” said Mr Hwingwiri.
Among the speakers will be Mr Juan Visser, from City and Guilds in South Africa, who will update delegates on international training and staff development issues.
It is also hoped a high-level speaker from outside the country will give a presentation on marketing issues.
There will also be presentations from local players during the three days the congress will be held.
During the congress sessions there will also be reports from key travel and tourism bodies. The congress will end with the Hospitality Awards dinner, at which accolades will be given to people and organisations recognised for their achievements.
Congress sessions and the Hospitality Fair will be held at Elephant Hills, while social events will be taking place at venues around Victoria Falls which will also host cultural exhibitions.
